I saw Mike's comments on Google Maps vs. Virtual Earth in UK. This is even more true in Africa where Google coverage is quite good and Virtual Earth virtually non-existent. Effectively this is blocking us from Silverlight development until an easy way of doing it with Google Maps emerges (or MS discovers the rest of the world!)

Mike,

According to Chris Pendleton the Silverlight Map Control is not restricted to using Virtual Earth tiles and data. There is no preset for using Google Earth tiles and data, but there's nothing stopping you from building a solution that combines the Silverlight Map Control and Google Maps data.

As a developer - currently using Google Maps in the UK and also building Silverlight applications - this is great.

Have already built a demo version of my community mapping app using the control BUT......

In the UK the quality of maps for most parts of the country are far superior (and more up to date) in Google Maps than Virtual Earth - which is a big shame and will stop any of my deployments
