Background

Skyworks approached Earthware to partner with them to develop a new 'mapumentary' video and mapping concept (AviMap) and build the prototype and showcase it. With the approaching 2010 football World Cup, we saw an opportunity to develop the concept into a reality.

What did we deliver?

• A high definition streaming video and Silverlight mapping platform that tells an engaging story about the World Cup stadia featuring broadcast quality graphics and animation
• Hosting of the map and video on the Windows Azure platform to allow extensive scalability and reliability as well as high quality bandwidth on a global scale and on a range of client connection speeds
• IIS smooth streaming technology was adapted to work on the Azure blob storage platform delivering video and Silverlight to a global audience using the Azure CDN network
• The map was reported on by many global social media partners, featured on the BBC Sports home page and attracted more than 25,000 unique visitors during the World Cup event
