A little known fact is that Earthware were the first to launch a street view product in the UK, a full four months before Google! You can still see these images (taken by Seety) in NovaLoca’s property maps. Click here to go to a map and then choose “Street Level Views”.
There are four suppliers of ‘Street View’ imagery that we are aware of including Seety, a company we have partnered with (see NovaLoca client story). The most well known is Google (Google Maps and Google Earth) but Bing Maps (Silverlight) also recently launched their Street Side imagery in major US cities and MapQuest also has similar imagery.
Street views are 360° horizontal and 290° vertical panoramic views from a row of positions along the street (every 10 or 20 metres or so) and is available from the above web mapping API’s as well as on the Apple iPhone and Apple iPod Touch, Windows Mobile and BlackBerry.
