Top ten reasons you should join earthware
I've been at earthware for five years and I love it. At the moment we're hiring for lots of vacancies. But why should you join us? Here's my top ten reasons.
1. The team
I honestly cannot imagine working with a better team. My colleagues at earthware are like family. We all help and support each other and make each other better. We have regular team events and socials, from the Crystal Maze to White Water Rafting, we're even going to Centre Parcs in September!
2. Health and wellbeing
Ensuring the team are happy and healthy is our biggest priority. We have an employee assistance program which offers help and support on anything from mental health to financial advice. It also offers the team and our families free counselling whenever we need it.
We also have a buddy scheme, 'daily brew' calls where we can catch up over a cuppa and a meeting policy where 30 minute meetings are 25 minutes and 1 hour meetings are 50 minutes to make sure everyone has time for 'tea and a wee'. Back to back calls aren't healthy.
3. Life-changing projects
One of the best things about working at earthware is that we get to work on healthcare projects that really change lives. That is the best feeling. We recently worked on Hopelink, a tool we built with PAPYRUS to help keep young people safe from suicide, and LiverSync, an app that monitors trends in a patient's brain function, looking for early signs of a potentially fatal complication of chronic liver disease.
4. Everyone has a voice
At earthware everyone's ideas and views are listened to. If someone has a better way of doing something, or wants to use a new tool or technology, we love that. We have an employee forum called Pulse where the team raises topics for us to discuss as a group. We've also just launched our new Employee Strategy group, formed of team members, to look at making high level business change.
5. Learning and training
If there's a course you want to go on or a new skill you want to learn then we're up for it! We love learning new things and we get all the support we need to do that. In September we're launching something really exciting - our Growing Leaders Academy to help members of the team become the future leaders of the business! More on that later in the year...
6. Work from anywhere
We have physical bases in a beautiful barn in rural Hertfordshire and a creative hub in Norwich, however our team can work from anywhere. When we all had to move to working from home last year it wasn't a problem for us as we were already fully set up for remote working. Almost half of our team are permanent remote workers and everyone else works in the office when they fancy some company, and at home whenever they like. Some people love working from cafes, or even other countries. Anything goes!
7. We care
We love helping others. We do regular fundraising for charities such as PAPYRUS, we are a carbon positive workforce with Ecologi and we support the running of a senior citizen's care home in Moldova. We also love doing pro-bono work for healthcare charities, making a difference in the world is why we exist.
We love celebrating great work. We have lots of ways of doing this but my favourite is our values awards. These are quarterly awards nominated and voted for by the whole team, where people who have demonstrated one of our values get an award, and some cash!
9. Cool tech
Not only do we get to work of life-changing projects but we love to play with fun and new technologies. From Virtual Reality to Chatbots, Augmented Reality and more, we love to innovate. We'll always encourage experimenting with different technologies and searching for better ways of doing things.
10. We love parents (of humans or pets)
Work-life balance is really important to us, we know that nothing is more important than family. We have part time mums, team members who utilise flexible working to make sure they can always do the school run and we love babies and animals regular appearances on video calls. We also have enhanced maternity and paternity policies so that new mums and dads can spend time with their babies without worrying about rushing back to work.
